Events from our past often manifest as deep memory images which ‘bleed through’ into our present awareness. Often, if we can’t relate the images to our present circumstances, we ignore them or explain them away. We may also have reminders of the past in the form of our senses of sound, smell etc. and in dreams.

These images can be signs that something is presenting itself to be healed. If, at the time of a traumatic event, there was no release of the effects, both emotional and physical, then the energy of the event becomes locked into our bodies. It may be at some time later in life that a current event triggers that stored energy and ‘unexplained’ physical symptoms will appear, perhaps accompanied by strong emotions or feelings of panic; these may subside temporarily until the next ‘trigger’, so a pattern is established.

Working with DMP we begin with the current event and these feelings and physical sensations as they are in the present and focus on them, encouraging the awareness deeper to the original source of the trauma. This awareness can extend beyond this life and so events can be addressed that we can’t explain through our personal history such as chronic pain and illness with no apparent medical cause, unexplained emotions and phobias, as well as unexplained familiarity with people you’ve not met or places you’ve not visited.

When the core event is located, we work through the story that emerges ‘as if’ it were real now and with psychodrama relive the trauma, so bringing it to conscious awareness and then discharging it by giving the body permission to express what it was unable to at the time. If a past life story emerges we then go to the death of that character and in the post-death state, reflect on that life and complete any ‘unfinished business’ . In this way any unresolved residue still being carried into this life can be let go of, on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

It is not necessary to believe in past lives or reincarnation to experience the multi-layered benefits of DMP, merely to trust and allow the psyche and the body to go wherever is needed to tell their story: the images that emerge act as metaphors for our current experience to help us gain understanding and bring about change in our lives.
